How Often To Post On Social Media?

This question has riddled the mind of social media marketers for years! Some say you should post twice a day; some say once a day; some say three times a week. Your social media posting schedule is an integral part of your social media marketing, and the truth is, there’s no one standard social media posting schedule for you to follow (or everyone would be doing the same thing – no?)

Aims When Posting On Social Media

Social media is used to connect to your audiences. Through social media, you can share content relevant to your niche and the wider industry with your target audience so you can boost your brand authenticity.

Why do you post on social media?

  • To share valuable content that establishes your expertise in the industry
  • To gain access to wider audiences
  • To gain feedback
  • To build brand loyalty

Your Posting Frequency

Your posting frequency is the first thing that matters. You need to be consistent with the content you push out. If you are not posting consistently, your audience will lose interest in your brand and look for alternatives. At the same time, you don’t want to post too much content and become a nuisance.

What Content to Post

The next step is to focus on the content you are sharing. Even if you are posting consistently, if your content isn’t adding any real value to users’ lives, they won’t engage with your posts.

In fact, if you are posting poor content, you may end up losing followers. This is why you need to make sure that your content is relevant, represents your authentic self, carries your brand message, and adds value!

Is Posting Enough?

Finally, is posting enough? Getting your posts up is half of the equation, the second half demands engagement. You need to be actively engaging with your audiences.

Social media algorithms tend to boost the visibility of posts with higher engagement. To them, your content must be valuable for it to get engagement, and so it shows up in the news feeds of other users.

How Often To Post On Social Media?

Now that we have discussed how you should post, let’s discuss some of the optimal posting frequencies of top social media platforms.

On average, you should be posting once per day and no more than twice per day on Facebook. At the minimum, you should be posting at least three times a week. You also need to make sure you are not posting back to back but are giving at least a 3-hour gap between each posting.

As for Twitter, you should be tweeting at least 2-3 times a day, but no more than five times per day. If you are just starting off, going for five tweets a day isn’t all bad because there is a better chance of engaging with users and getting higher responses. After all, the life span of posts on Twitter is far shorter than other social media channels.

LinkedIn is for the professionals, and LinkedIn itself rewards consistent postings with engagement. Posting at least 20 times a month or at least once per day is recommended to reach a higher audience. You can schedule LinkedIn posts to 20 times per month which equates to once every weekday since those are the standard working days.

Instagram works almost similarly to Facebook. It is generally recommended to post at least once per day, no more than three times daily. Once again, be sure to space your posts; it usually helps to have a scheduler to do this for you. It’s also recommended to share stories to update your audiences daily!
